The Art of Ageing Well

In 2023, Moving Waves was commissioned by Buckinghamshire Council, to produce a series of creative workshops. The purpose of those workshops was to foster artistic expression and community engagement, focusing on residents' perceptions of ageing in Buckinghamshire. These workshops provided participants with opportunities to develop their creative skills (in particular storytelling, writing and filmmaking) through the exploration of what it means to age well in Buckinghamshire.

SHARING LIFE STORIES

Through these storytelling workshops, we explored the art of storytelling with focus on the tales of our lives, passed from person to person, connecting us all. The workshops enabled residents to explore their hopes and dreams of ageing well in the county, focusing on the future, while connecting them with fellow Buckinghamshire residents. As a special bonus, participants had the exciting opportunity to showcase their work in our final exhibition and be part of a short film!

Capturing life in buckinghamshire

In our photography workshops, we explored how to take pictures that capture the wonderful moments of ageing well in Buckinghamshire. Suitable for both beginners or budding photographers, residents were able to use their own smartphones and cameras, or try our easy-to-use polaroid cameras. Plus, as a bonus, participants had the exciting opportunity to showcase their work in our final exhibition and be part of a short film!

Poems for change

In our poetry workshops, we embarked on a collective poetic journey. Through the use of stimulating elements like images and music, we crafted poems that beautifully captured our experiences of ageing well in Buckinghamshire. The workshops served as a powerful conversation starter, aimed at changing perceptions of ageing. As an added bonus, participants had the exciting opportunity to showcase their poetic creation in our final exhibition and be featured in a captivating short film!
