At Moving Waves, we believe in more than just teaching dance steps—we’re here to empower young people to express themselves, build confidence, and feel proud of who they are. For over 10 years, our academy has been a creative home for children in North London, helping them grow not just as performers, but as individuals.
In 2023, we were thrilled to expand to a second location at Whittington Park Community Centre, just minutes from Tufnell Park. With six weekly classes running during term time for children aged 4–12, we offer a nurturing and high-quality experience rooted in fun, inclusivity, and self-expression.
In January 2025, we launched our Street Dance sessions in Bounds Green, expanding our community further into North London.
September is a great time to join us and sign your child up for one of our classes.
Here’s what your child can gain from joining Moving Waves:
Street Dance – Confidence and Style
Street Dance is a lively fusion of commercial, hip-hop, and house dance styles, encouraging students to express themselves through freestyle and choreography. This class is a fantastic way for children to develop rhythm, coordination, and creativity. By practicing energetic, upbeat routines, students gain physical strength and stamina, while learning to improvise and make the dance their own. The collaborative and social nature of street dance builds confidence and encourages a sense of community among dancers. This class provides a fun, high-energy way for children to express their individuality and hone their dance skills.
Ballet – Discipline Meets Imagination
Our Ballet class takes a fresh approach to this classic dance form. Unlike traditional ballet schools, we focus on fostering creativity and self-expression through imaginative exercises, while still teaching the fundamental techniques of ballet. This class helps children develop posture, balance, and grace, as well as discipline and concentration. Ballet is known for its ability to improve coordination and physical strength while instilling a deep sense of rhythm and musicality. At Moving Waves, we encourage every child to embrace their unique style within the framework of ballet, making it both a fun and educational experience.
Break Dance – Strength and Creativity
Break Dance (or breaking) is perfect for energetic children who love to move! This acrobatic style of dance, deeply rooted in hip-hop culture, emphasises athleticism, flexibility, and creativity. Break dance is a fantastic way for children to develop their strength, stamina, and balance, as they learn complex moves like spins, freezes, and power moves. More than just a physical workout, break dance encourages individuality and improvisation, allowing students to infuse their personal style into the moves they learn. This class cultivates resilience, body control, and a sense of achievement as students progress and master more challenging skills.
Musical Theatre – All-Round Confidence
Combining acting, singing, and dance, Musical Theatre boosts self-confidence and helps children express big emotions in a supportive environment. From Broadway numbers to West End hits, students build stage presence and develop a passion for storytelling.
The Magic of Performing: Our Summer Show
All our students have the chance to take part in our Summer Show in July —a joyful celebration where they perform for friends and family. It’s more than just a show—it’s a confidence-boosting milestone where each child feels proud of what they’ve achieved.
Social Skills, Routine and Confidence
As well specific benefits from each style, joining our dance academy offers so many other benefits. Joining in September really helps establish a routine along with the new school year. It also provides a fun and active activity away from school and screen time, allows children to make friends outside of their school groups, and boost s their confidence!
